OFFICE AND INDUSTRIAL ERGONOMIC ASSESSMENT
An Ergonomic Assessment is designed to identify conditions in the workplace that pose a risk for injury and to provide specific recommendations to mitigate these conditions. Information regarding the physical tasks/demands completed by the worker, equipment and tools in use, workstation design, environmental conditions, production expectations, safety guidelines, injury statistics, anthropometrics, human anatomy and function, occupational safety standards, and current research are utilized to provide practical, effective solutions.

Work-Able Solutions offers a wide range of ergonomics services. Please call us if you would like more information, or click on the descriptions of some of our standard services below:

JOB DEMANDS ANALYSIS
A Job Demands Analysis is an objective measurement of the physical and cognitive demands of a specific job. Conditions such as the frequency, duration and intensity of various work demands are measured. Demands such as sitting, standing, walking, climbing, balancing, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, gripping, dexterity, tool use, vision and perception, concentration, decision making, environmental conditions, and degree of training and supervision are assessed. A comprehensive report is provided. This information can be used to classify the job into an occupational category (e.g.: light level work), determine if an injured or ill worker is able to perform the job, and can be instrumental in injury prevention and return to work programs.

WORKSITE ASSESSMENT AND ACCOMMODATION
The Worksite Assessment will identify and remove conditions in a workplace that may be interfering with work performance when a worker is experiencing an injury or illness. An evaluation of the work environment and the individual’s ability to perform the work demands is completed. Accessibility, work methods, workplace design and ergonomics, productivity demands, equipment in use, and the worker’s abilities and limitations are some of the factors that are considered. Recommendations are designed to improve function by removing barriers to successful work performance. An objective report, with clear recommendations is provided.

FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY EVALUATION
A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) provides objective data regarding an individual’s physical abilities and limitations, determines ability to perform the essential demands of a job or occupational classification, and assists with vocational or rehabilitation planning. Valid and reliable test measures are used to assess factors such as range of motion, strength, sensation, coordination, balance, mobility, endurance, positional tolerances, cognitive ability, and materials handling capabilities.

Work-Able Solutions offers a range of FCE services. Please call us if you would like more information, or click on the descriptions of some of our standard services below:

HOME / ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING ASSESSMENT
HOSPITAL DISCARGE ASSESSMENT

The Home/Activities of Daily Living Assessment determines an individual’s ability to perform daily living activities such as personal care (e.g.: dressing, bathing, transfers), home management (e.g.: cooking, cleaning, managing finances, shopping), and recreational pursuits. Physical, cognitive, and emotional function, along with the home environment and family supports are evaluated. The need for assistance or supervision in the home and community can be determined. An objective report is provided and Work-Able Solutions will also use the standard reports required by insurers. Recommendations are designed to maximize independence and safety in the home and community.

IMPAIRMENT ASSESSMENT
An Impairment Assessment is an objective and technical assessment of a specific body part affected by injury or illness using valid and reliable measures. Factors such as scarring, range of motion, sensation, limb length and girth, dexterity, and strength can be measured. Opinions regarding the impact of the impairment on function can be provided if requested. The data is provided to a third party (e.g.: physician, insurer) for rating and determination of permanent impairment awards

RETURN TO WORK PROGRAM
An individualized, goal-oriented program, which includes an assessment of the individual’s functional abilities, the work demands, and the work environment: all of which are critical to designing an effective program. Factors such as the hours of work and job duties are increased gradually over a specific time period. The Occupational Therapist acts a liaison between the employee, the employer, and the medical/rehabilitation team, and monitors the program regularly to ensure successful transition back to work. Programs are designed to minimize disruption of work routines and impact on other employees. A detailed initial report, with a specific return to work plan; regular progress reports; and a final report outlining the program outcome are provided.
